Questions to Ask Before Booking a Lash Appointment
Lash extensions sit close to your eyes and stay there for weeks, so it's worth choosing your lash artist with care. These are the questions I'd ask before booking with anyone, including me.
1. What training do you have?
Lash application is a skill that takes training and practice. Ask where your artist trained, which techniques they're qualified in, and how long they've been working with lashes. A good artist will be happy to tell you.
2. Can I see your work?
A portfolio of the artist's own work shows their style and consistency. Look closely at the lash line: well-applied extensions look neat and separated, and the finish should suit the client's eyes rather than overwhelm them. You can see my lash work in the Lash Services portfolio.
3. Which look will suit my eyes?
Classic, hybrid and volume sets all create different finishes, and length and curl change the effect again. Your eye shape, your natural lashes and your everyday style all matter. A good artist will talk this through with you, rather than offer a one-size-fits-all set.
4. What products do you use, and can I have a patch test?
If you have sensitive eyes or skin, or any allergies, say so before your appointment. Ask what adhesive your artist uses, and whether a patch test is available before your first full set.
5. How should I prepare?
Most artists ask you to arrive with clean, make-up-free eyes. If you wear contact lenses, you may be asked to remove them. Ask how long the appointment takes. A full set can take a while, so plan to relax.
6. What aftercare do you recommend?
Aftercare makes a real difference to how your lashes look and last. Ask how long to keep them dry, how to cleanse them, and which products to avoid. A good artist will explain all of this before you leave.
7. How often will I need a fill?
Your natural lashes shed in a natural cycle, and your extensions shed with them. Ask how often your artist recommends fills, and how full your lashes need to be for a fill rather than a new set.
8. What are your booking and cancellation policies?
Check practical details up front: how to book, whether a deposit is needed, and what happens if you need to reschedule. Clear policies are a good sign of a professional studio.
